Matt James announced as new MD of Mi9 Media

In June 2012, Matt James will join Mi9 as the Managing Director of Mi9 Media, bringing with him 21 years of global media communications experience.

Matt will move from the UK for the role, where since 2010 he has been in the role of MD at Starcom Mediavest Group (Publicis).

Prior to that he was MD of Omnicom Media Group’s flagship international operation, OMD International London for a 12 year stint - during which, at age 27, he was named one of the youngest managing directors of a UK top ten media agency.

Matt started his professional career as a civil engineering draftsman but in his own words ‘quickly realized the world of centrifugal points was not going to be his eternal inspiration’. He switched careers in 1990 and landed at Ogilvy and Mather on the Ford account – and the rest is history. Matt is well accustomed to presenting on the global stage and has worked on some of the world’s most renowned super brands; Microsoft, X-Box, General Motors, Apple, Virgin, Sony Music, Sony Pictures, Wrigleys and Nissan. He has also tutored in media at Cambridge.

At Mi9, his new remit will be to spearhead the Mi9 Advertising business, including sales, the Microsoft Advertising Network, Microsoft Advertising Exchange, Mi9 insights and the commercially-integrated creative production house, Mi9 studios.

The move to Australia follows past career stints in each Paris, New York and LA. Matt will relocate with his wife and three children.

Matt says the attraction to come and be a part of the Mi9 vision was instant, “For 20 years I’ve worked on the agency side, and every day I experience first-hand the pressure that brands have to differentiate in order to compete,” says James.

“Agencies and brands will understand that Mi9 is a powerful and compelling proposition. We will have to prove that we can drive this for the brands and the agencies, but Mi9’s imagination will drive differentiation, coupled with intelligence to truly impact our clients’ business.”

Speaking on James’ appointment, Mi9 Group CEO Mark Britt said Matt was a huge get, “Matt brings exceptional agency-side experience to our business. He has a proven track record of delivering unique experiences and ROI for some of the world’s biggest brands. I can’t wait to have him on board to lead our charge into the future state of media buying, and cement Mi9’s proposition in-market,” says Britt.
