A new addition to ninemsn

Mark Britt

I have been at ninemsn for almost two months now and during that time I have been out meeting many of you - our clients and agency partners. I have been asking you what challenges you have and how can we help solve these?

I consistently hear that you require fewer points of contact, deeper levels of engagement and relevance from your publishing partners. You are also telling me that there is a data explosion, and you need to interpret vast quantities of data to get a clear picture of the customers.

I believe the face of media in Australia and New Zealand is fundamentally changing and technology plays an ever greater role in connecting advertisers to the best audience.

Three weeks ago we announced the first point in the transformation of our business and the way we meet the needs of your business. Nine Entertainment Co. and Microsoft finalised an agreement to expand ninemsn. The Microsoft Media Network (MMN) was moved from Microsoft to sit alongside ninemsn, within the joint venture group.

Why did we do this?

MMN has deep capabilities in “technology led advertising” with expertise in analytics and data derived insights that help advertisers to connect better with their audience online. ninemsn represents iconic brands, great content and the largest online consumer base in Australia. Together, we will provide significantly improved targeting, greater depth of product offering and unrivalled scale to our advertising partners.

We will also rapidly improve our data driven offerings in targeting, particularly in the way we meet advertisers growing needs for customised, high precision targeting. Our new combined reach allows us to understand a consumer’s behavior across a vast amount of sites. We look forward to introducing highly customised, rich targeting offerings in the coming weeks, based on proprietary insights gathered across the unique reach of our network and the data assets we have in partnership with Microsoft.

Today, it is business as usual. The ninemsn and MMN sales teams continue to work independently, but alongside each other. Your contacts at MMN and ninemsn remain the same. Your current and planned campaigns continue as planned.

Over the next few weeks watch this space! We will share with you both short-term modifications to our servicing model along with our future vision. This will help us define a future that we are hoping you will find as exciting as we do.

We welcome you to give us feedback and join us as we go through this transformation, much of which we will share at our Digital Marketing Summit on 9th November 2011.
